SASU Academicians - Mountaineers

An exhibition organized by the Mountaineering Association of Serbia

NEXT DATE: TODAY
FROM: 10:00

The roots of Serbian mountaineering lie in the scientific and travel-based exploration of nature. Among its pioneers, Academician Josif Pancic, alongside travel writers Academician Ljuba Nenadovic and Academician Milan Dj. Milicevic, stand out prominently. Through their work, the foundations were laid for viewing the mountain as a space of knowledge, freedom, and spiritual elevation.

In Belgrade, on June 9th, 1901, Academician Jovan Zujovic, along with several students of Academician Josif Pancic, founded the Serbian Mountaineering Society, giving mountaineering in Serbia its institutional form.

The Serbian Mountaineering Society, today the Mountaineering Association of Serbia, counts 29 academician mountaineers. This exhibition is dedicated to their lives and achievements, presenting their professional and mountaineering biographies alongside selected supporting documentation.

The exhibition, organized to mark the 125th anniversary of the mountaineering movement in Serbia, will also feature a "living" Pancic's Spruce (Serbian Spruce).
